I am sure if I had more knoweledge setting this up would not have been so difficult, but it was. I have cable internet and I already have a router set up with the cable modem. I wanted to use this as well as the existing router, but it proved too difficult to set up. My existing is a linksys so when calling technical support, I of course got the "well, it the other routers problem" finger pointing.
It came in the mail yesterday and I had it up and running in about 15 mins. So installation gets 5 stars. And it definitely works as an extender as I am now getting full signal strength upstairs in my bedroom while the router is in the far corner of the basement. All appeared to be good until I started to do more than surf the internet. I couldn't hold a connection to my company's VPN and I kept losing connection when I tried to download podcasts to itunes.
Versatile, easy to set up, solid performance
I needed WiFi access from two spots in the house where the signal strength from my primary router is weak. So I got two DAP 1360s because they have removable antennas, allowing me to use small directional antennas that provide significant gain over the small omni-directional antennas that come with these types of products. I now have really excellent and reliable speed to both locations. This device has a variety of operating modes.
Apparently people don't follow instructions or don't understand the purpose of this device. I've got this to extend the range of my DIR-655 router, and it works flawless.
Perfect wireless extender
Despite the high price tag I have to say that this device saved the internet connection in our guest house. I am using it as an adapter; this means that pick ups the signal wirelessly and then transmits it via ethernet to my ps3 or laptop. I only wished that it had 2 or more ethernet ports. My suggestion when purchasing this extender is that the main router gotta be a dlink also, just to ensure they work properly.
